Wendy offers support for the entire family. She has over 30 years of experience working with children and teens who face obstacles resulting in academic, emotional, and behavioral barriers. She uses a holistic approach to lean into each person’s unique, God-given gifts as she joins them in the middle of their story.

Areas of specialty: EMDR Therapy with children and adults, Child-centered Play Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, Creative interventions (Art in Therapy), Neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, Sensory/Learning Differences), Behavioral Issues, Adoption/Kinship/Foster Support, Anxiety, Depression, Trauma Recovery

As a Trauma-Informed therapist, Wendy uses a combination of EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), creative interventions and talk therapy to provide a safe place for individuals to heal. As an EMDR clinician, Wendy explores a client’s past to help identify why someone is getting triggered in the present. She understands that individuals can walk around with ‘sore spots’ from past experiences that may have a negative impact one’s thoughts, emotions, and physical well-being.

Wendy is a Certified AutPlay Therapist, which equips her to help clients with needs related to neurodiversity. AutPlay is an affirming framework for implementing play therapy to address the mental health needs of neurodivergent children and their families. It is appropriate for children and teens, ages 3-18, who have a variety of needs including: those assessed with Autism Spectrum, ADHD, social anxiety, sensory differences, learning differences, highly sensitive and developmental and physical disabilities.  Wendy uses a collaborative process to include the child or teen and parents, focusing on supporting positive self-worth, taking a strengths based approach, creating affirming identity and understanding and teaching advocacy.

Children (5-12 years)

As a Registered Play Therapist™, Wendy combines play therapy and EMDR to help children heal by taking small ‘bites’ of their trauma. Wendy understands play is a child’s language and children will utilize the carefully chosen toys, sand tray, and creative resources to represent where a they are struggling.

Wendy integrates Play Therapy with EMDR Therapy so she can look closely at attachment wounds, as well as dissociation strategies your child might be using. In addition, she nurtures a child’s resources to help the them feel more confident and capable.

Wendy understands the importance of forming a relationship when meeting with teens and young adults. Her non-judgmental approach helps her connect in a meaningful way. Wendy finds integrating talk therapy with creative interventions allows both teens and young adults to go deeper, while exploring the parts of them that are carrying hurt and pain. By supporting the client, Wendy integrates practical skills during sessions using DBT to help clients understand their emotions and engage relationships more effectively.

Adults

Wendy works with adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, past traumas, and relationship issues. By combining talk therapy, EMDR Therapy and creative interventions Wendy explores why individuals often feel ‘stuck’. By looking at family of origin, attachment wounds and adaptive strategies for regulation, Wendy can make connections about how someone sees themselves and the world around them. She integrates creative interventions to explore different ‘parts of self’ that are holding hurt and pain.
